Instagramming Cal Poly

No one can quite capture life at Cal Poly like a Cal Poly student. In October of 2015, Cal Poly’s social media director began a “Guest Instagrammer” program to share what its like to go to Cal Poly through the eyes of our students. The results have not only shown the true artistic talent that many Cal Poly students have, but they also showcase the vibrant and unique experience that each student undergoes at Cal Poly.

Since the program began, Cal Poly’s Instagram following has grown from 12,000 to 16,000 followers and engagement has increased significantly. But more importantly, we are giving students that opportunity to share their individual stories and photos with the Cal Poly community.

My name is Holly Parminter and I am extremely thrilled to be your Guest Instagrammer for this weekend! I am a fifth year at Cal Poly (soon to be graduate in less than 6 weeks) majoring in Liberal Studies. I am originally from Orange County in a city called La Habra Heights. One of my passions has always been photography and since living here in SLO, I have had the opportunity to capture a perspective that I believe showcases how breathtaking this area truly is. I am delighted to have SLO as my second home and grateful to have this chance to share some of my little moments of San Luis Obispo!

Orfalea College of Business

I’m Taylor Curtiss, a second year Business major here at Cal Poly. I come from a very small mountain town called Winthrop, which is nestled at the base of the North Cascade Mountain Range in Washington. To put in perspective how small, my graduating class was 40. Coming to San Luis Obispo and attending Poly has been such a wonderful change. Every day I’m surrounded by inviting, inspiring, and enthusiastic people in a beautiful and adventure filled area. I’m so humbled to call SLO my home and so thankful for the opportunity to share my favorite places in the area!

It’s truly an honor to be Guest Instagrammer and share some images that I think embody what my experience of being a Cal Poly student living in San Luis Obispo is like.

As a psychology major who will be graduating this December, my time here at Cal Poly has certainly left an indelible impression on me – so much so that I plan on returning for graduate school before pursuing a career in counseling.

My passion for photography, which spans the last three years, manifested naturally and evolved quickly – I’m hardly ever without my camera and I’m always looking for the next shot. As a Central Coast native, I feel fortunate to have grown up in such a gorgeous area and try to pay that forward by showing off its beauty in my photography. I’m grateful for this opportunity and appreciate you following along!! -@luketyreephotography

College of Engineering

My name is Isaias Diaz and I am truly excited to have been given this opportunity. Currently I am a 4th year mechanical engineering undergrad at Cal Poly and part of the NCAA D1 Cal Poly Wrestling team.

My goal in life is to one day become a NASA Astronaut and travel among the stars.

Believe it or not the first time I ever set foot in SLO was on move-in day! I legitimately had no idea what I was getting myself into, but let me tell you, being here has been the greatest, happiest, most enriching experience of my life thus far. Cal Poly offers so many opportunities for so many different people. Truly, I feel blessed to be where I am today and to be part of such an amazing community. Hopefully these next few days I may be able to give you a glimpse of the Cal Poly experience through my eyes.

My name is Blake Silva, and I am a Graphic Design major at Cal Poly. I am 19 years old and believe that every day offers new joys and experiences to capture. This is a self-portrait; I grew up in Ventura, CA so I am not too far from my previous home. However, Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo have quickly become a happy new home of mine, and I love them for being exactly that: happy.

Jason Camera

College of Liberal Arts

My name is Jason Camera (haha yes my last name is actually Camera 📷). I’m a 4th year photography major specializing in travel and food photography. Admittedly, I’ve caught the travel bug this year and can’t get enough. Greece, Haiti, Paris, Italy… To me there’s no greater feeling than being immersed in new cultures. But when the dust settles, I have my favorite city in the world to come home to. Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo will always be my home, and I can’t wait to share with you my personal, unique perspective of them!

I am originally from a town named Bonney Lake, which is located in the ever-beautiful Pacific Northwest. I’ve always had a passion for photography, but it wasn’t until this this last summer that I bought my first camera.

Cal Poly is such an amazing place to go to school and there’s always a new adventure to go on or location to explore. I hope your dead week is going alright so far and I’m excited to share some of my favorite experiences and places that make living here so amazing. Cheers!

I’m Christa and I am a second year Animal Science major. I am a San Francisco native who moved to Arcadia and then back to San Francisco and now my four years here in SLO.

Cal Poly is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to; from the golden (sometimes green) rolling hills, the shining sea, the starry skies, and the stunning sunrises/sunsets, it’s hard not to love it here!

The many different sceneries around this area allow me to explore my passion of photography which has grown immensely since I started school here. There are an infinite number of things I love about SLO, and I’m so glad I have the opportunity to share it with you!
