1960s

James Robert Bowin (Business Administration, ’69), now 91, wonders if he was the oldest in his class, at age 46. Bowin completed a four-year course in 39 months while working full time to support his family of six. Two of his four children attended Cal Poly. Bowin had a long career with the Department of Corrections in Sacramento. After retiring in 1988, he and his wife, Barbara, moved to the Sierra Nevada foothills. Bowin finds time to pursue his hobby of amateur archaeology. “Our lives have been blessed by the encouragement of the people of Cal Poly,” Bowin wrote.

1980s

Jeffrey Stought (Finance, ’89) was recently promoted to head of trading at Copper Rock Capital in Boston. Copper Rock provides equity investment management solutions for institutional investors. Stought resides in Wellesley, Mass., with his wife and two sons.

2000s

Kimberly (Kerrigan) Smith (Business Administration, ’03), senior vice president of wholesale lending at American Advisors Group, has been named one of Mortgage Professional America Magazine’s Hot 100 for 2015. This annual list represents the best that the mortgage industry has to offer.

Keith Shields (B.S. Business Administration, ’03), a social science teacher of eight years, was recently promoted to vice principal of a Sacramento area middle school.

McConnell-Twins< Patrick McConnell (Industrial Technology, ’05) is celebrated the birth of twin girls, Fiona Marie and Nora Grace, on June 17.

Sarah Oberman Bartush (Business Administration, ’06) is chief marketing officer at Camarillo-based Channel Islands Aviation, where she is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s marketing. She has managed instructor pilots for nine years. Channel Islands Aviation was founded by Bartush’s parents 40 years ago. Her senior project at Cal Poly was to develop a business plan for the flight school. The project was put in place, and in 2007, airplane manufacturer Cessna awarded the school Outstanding Flight School status.

Alejandro Palacio (Business Administration, ’07) began a career in human resources with Omni Hotels & Resorts in 2008. Since then he has received a series of promotions in the company, taking him to San Diego, Fort Worth, and Boston. He now works at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

colombo^ Katie Colombo (Business Marketing, ’13) and Brian Peters (Communication Studies, ’12) got engaged in March 2015 at Zion National Park. They are planning their wedding for May 2016 at Jack House & Gardens in San Luis Obispo.
