On March 8, alumni communities across the U.S. celebrated Cal Poly’s founding date. There was no shortage of Cal Poly pride at all the 18 celebrations — from San Luis Obispo to Nashville, Minnesota, Seattle and more.
“What made the San Diego event special was seeing people from different graduating classes connecting and talking on a beautiful day,” said Robert Guerra (Political Science ’17). “It was also great seeing a bunch of recent graduates attend and [learning] how much they got out of their time at Cal Poly!”
“It was incredible to see the response and the amount of attendees we had for our first event,” added Victor Rey (Crop Science ’03), who helped organize the Latinx Community gathering in Salinas. “It was really nice reconnecting with old classmates and friends, making new connections and planning future events as we celebrated what it means to be Mustangs!”

The festivities mark the date Governor Henry Gage signed legislation establishing Cal Poly in 1901. This exciting announcement came after a group of local citizens led by journalist Myron Angel had been lobbying for a state school in San Luis Obispo since 1894.
The second annual Cal Poly Night with the San Francisco Giants will be on July 25, 2025, at Oracle Park, as the Giants take on the New York Mets. Each ticket purchase includes entrance into the game and a limited edition Cal Poly x Giants hoodie.
