Rose Float Takes Flight

By Diego Abeloos

The award-winning Cal Poly Rose Float Committee unveiled the design for its 2018 entry this summer. Titled “Dreams Take Flight,” the design features baby animals flying through the air in colorful cardboard airplanes.

According to Cal Poly Rose Float President Ali Harake, the design represents the range of skills and diversity within the student-led program.“We really wanted to push for that in our design,” said Harake, a senior mechanical engineering student. “This design represents young Cal Poly students taking off.”

The planes on the float will feature stamps and stickers representing past entries — a tribute to the teams that helped shape a program that represents both Cal Poly campuses. The float will be Cal Poly’s 70th entry into the Tournament of Roses Parade, which takes place on New Year’s Day in Pasadena, California.

Sign-ups are now open to volunteer to help the team decorate the float in Pasadena, December 26-30! Click here to register for Decorations Week.
