Rick Antle (Crop Science ’79), an icon in the agriculture industry, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Together with the Tanimura family, Antle and his father formed the produce company Tanimura & Antle in 1982. Antle won many industry and career awards, including the United Fresh Produce Association 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award. He was recognized as a Cal Poly distinguished alumnus in 1994. Beyond his business success, Antle was active in improving his community. He helped develop a housing project that provided homes for more than 800 farmworker employees and also pioneered an employee stock ownership plan so that his employees could be part-owners of the business. Antle leaves behind his wife, Tonya, and four children: Brian Antle (Agricultural Business ’06), Jeff Antle, Anthony Pavich, and Natalie Pavich Drobny (Journalism ’10).
