Kathy (Karczewski) Borges (Animal Science, ’89 and M.S., Agriculture, ’93) and her son, Mark Borges, a freshman  Environmental Management and Protection major, at the entrance to Poly Canyon. At Cal Poly, Kathy was part of the animal science department’s thoroughbred project and an active member of the sorority Sigma Kappa; today Mark represents the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences on the ASI board of directors, as a college ambassador, and as Fremont Hall’s community council president. “I want to make a difference in the world,” says Mark. “What I’m most passionate about is the stuff I don’t get graded on.”
